Malaysia : Yogi B & Natchatra

In 1998, Poetic Ammo released their ground breaking album “It’s a Nice Day to Be Alive” which made hip-hop a household music genre. On this album, Yogi B pioneered Tamil Hip-Hop with the now classic track “Vallavan”, thus becoming the first ever Tamil emcee globally. “Vallavan” was light years ahead of its’ time and was the sole cause for the emergence of the Tamil hip-hop scene in this country. Now, in 2006, Yogi B has roped in Dr Burn and Emcee Jesz, the duo, collectively known as Natchatra.

Dr Burn started his career as a stage performer in 1996 while furthering his studies in Audio Engineering. His introduction to hip-hop was when he and some of his friends formed the underground rap group called Worst Media Clique (W.M.C). He also has a self-titled debut album under the Alai Osai label to his credit. Dr Burn has also worked with most of the Tamil industry’s leading artistes while he was the sound engineer at Tribe Studios. He then got a chance to meet Yogi B while working on Lock Up Guna’s solo project, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Emcee Jesz started off his rap career at the age of 18 when he performed for the first time for his college’s Indian Cultural Society night. He then continued his music journey by forming a group called Indiana Soul with his now ex-partner, performing at underground hip-hop gigs. It was around this time that he was approached by Yogi B to join Natchatra.

Together, Yogi B and Natchatra gave you the most anticipated Tamil Hip-Hop album, Vallavan, proudly presented to you by Boombox Records and Maestro Records.

Malaysia : Vedaz

A dynamic duo from Penang that consists of McRy and Badak Ryn formed the group Vedaz in 2005. Both being hip hop enthusiasts and fantastic lyricsts, their work was soon spotted in many local underground gigs mainly along the lines of the 5elemetz movement. The duo first broke through into the mainstream with a colaboration with Dr Burn of Yogi B & Natchatra on the Zurazamharam compailation.

In 2009 , Vedaz begin their effort on putting together a full length album. Naavarasan, their debute album was released in 2010 and is currently gaining

heavy rotation on local airplay. Hit singles include Soll En Anbe , Dapangz and Kalai Maathu. Log on to www.vedaz.net for more details.

Malaysia : Tactmatic

KL's Battle Rap Champion. Avid Music Fan. Hip Hop Enthusiast. He's Humble yet All That.

Tact grew up listening to hip hop in his early teen years after the heavy influence of hip hop hit the nation with groups like Poetic Ammo and Too Phat leading the scene. With the mad love for Hip-Hop going strong , Tact tried everything hip hop from break dancing to graffiti only to realize that the microphon
e was what he worked best with.

Starting off with only a Rm10 PC Microphone and the downloaded version of Fruity Loops, Tact recorded tracks with rappers across the globe via the internet and participated in key style rap battles. Having won the battles he participated in, networks were built and affiliations with rappers around the country were formed and a collective from Penang consisting of Shark, Potentialz and Rude Mack joined forces with Tact to form the infamous Illinguists who were responsible for the track “Supafly” which gained recognition among the local listeners. Tact who by then had moved to the city, Kuala Lumpur form his home town in Teluk Intan, Perak established himself as an underground rapper who was hungry for recognition which soon came through as it did for many other local rappers through Astro Hitz.Tv’s Blast Off. Leading the now defunct group, Rapsody to the semi-final Tact then knew that if he was going to strive in the local scene, he was going to do it by himself as a solo artist.
Having performed in numerous shows/gigs/clubs , Tact found a new dimension in the music business by producing tracks and running a home based recording studio. Early this year, the need for diversifying revenue from the music business diverted Tact’s attention to the business side of the game and a sub-publishing agreement deal was signed with one of the major publishing companies. Tact founded the recently erected TACT RECORDS and does the publishing for artists signed to the label

Apart from the business, Tact is also one of the nations top freestyle battle MC’s. He is now the MC to beat, having won tournaments such as TYGS (Think You Got Skillz), KL Slam Jam, and The Illestcipher(Singapore).

United Kingdom : M.I.A.

If you read a lot about new music on the Web, odds are pretty good that, at some point between the September 2004 release of "Galang" and the March 2005 release of Arular, you were struck with the urge to turn your computer off or maybe even heave it out of a nearby window. If you don't read a lot about new music on the Web, the preceding sentence indicates how bewildering and draining the chatter about M.I.A. became. Arular, M.I.A.'s first album, leaked well before its official release, allowing journalists and downloaders plenty of time to dissect it and bat ideas back and forth -- taking in the sounds, words, and absolutely all of the context -- before average music fans were able to develop their own opinions.

Maya Arulpragasam spent the early years of her life in a number of places. She moved from London, England, to her parents' native Sri Lanka at the age of six months, only to relocate to Madras, India. During a return stay in Sri Lanka, the civil war taking place within the country escalated to the point where Arulpragasam began to lose family members and friends. She didn't see her father -- a devout and active separatist as part of the Tamil rebellion, which has clashed with the Sinhalese majority -- often throughout these years, but her life stabilized once she and the rest of her family were able to make it back to London.

As a student, Arulpragasam became involved in the arts and published a monogram book of her paintings -- titled -M.I.A. and heavily influenced by the Tamil rebellion. She later connected with Elastica, providing the photography and graphics for the group's second album, and she shot footage during their American tour. Elastica's support act, Peaches, introduced her to the Roland MC-505, a sequencer she became familiar with after returning home. Steve Mackey (Pulp) and Ross Orton became involved after hearing a demo; they made adjustments to "Galang," a song that was then pressed into 500 copies and released, under the name M.I.A., by the Showbiz label. It didn't take long for the song -- a bold, righteous amalgamation of hip-hop, electro, dancehall, grime, and baile funk -- to make an impact with DJs. She wound up signing a contract with XL, which re-released the single and, eventually, debut album Arular in 2005. Anticipation for the release was considerable, only heightened by the Piracy Funds Terrorism mixtape she put together with DJ Diplo.

Her second album, Kala, was released in 2007 and was recorded while she spent time in numerous countries. M.I.A. produced most of its tracks with Switch; Blaqstarr, Diplo, and Timbaland also contributed. One single from the album, "Paper Planes," became a surprise hit in summer 2008 after it was used in trailers for the film Pineapple Express; it eventually reached the Top Ten. The soundtrack for the Academy Award-winning Slumdog Millionaire also featured M.I.A.'s music; the release featured new material from the artist and was the first disc issued on her N.E.E.T. label. ///Y/, the third M.I.A. album, was released in 2010. As he was growing well among the remix song’s listener's, the beat maker then received an offer from the pioneer of Malaysian Hip Hop mainstream group Hyperkinetix to be their crew. That's how it made Deejay Gan to grow more on his music as he took his effort’s to produce beats for his own song’s using a downloaded version software of Fruity Loop and a PC keyboard.

As sampling was much supported by listener’s, Deejay Gan produced a tamil Folk (dapangkuthe) music taken from the movie Mr.Bharat (pachai molagai), a maestro Iliyaraja’s composition into head banging hip hop club beat and that's where he was approached by the current leading Malaysian rapper/singer Psychomantra of Culture Shock Records to work on his second debut album Punithamana Thulasi as chief music producer.

Malaysia : Krush KRZ

In 1983, June 28th Prakash Raja or better known as KRUSH KRZ was welcomed by Kuala Lumpur, the Capital City of Malaysia ; not knowing what was his passion, he grew up a normal childhood life. His interest in Music started in 2004, he spent ample of time listening to his favorites like bone thug and harmony, Tupac Shakur, ice cube etc.
He was craving to learn more about music, especially the culture and art of hip hop & RAP. Not thinking further he approached his childhood friend, Yuhan Prakash who is known as STYLOMANAVAN Superfly who had a good touch with our HIP HOP MASTER YOGI B at that point of time. Without further delay, they pulled along another friend, Ruben and approached YOGI B and formed their group named “KARMATIC RYDERZ”. With YOGI B’s guidance they started learning more about the art of RAP. Their talent was then recognized and accepted well by our Malaysian teenagers and was called to perform in Colleges and Universities; and without realizing they gained popularity. Krush had a little different taste of music; he was more into the flavor of reggae-ton and dance hall which was an influence of daddy Yankee, don Omar, tego, Sean Paul, Elephant man, Pitbul and more in line. Time past and it was time for Stylomannavan to pull his legs back from the group and Karmatic Ryderz was left with KRUSH and Ruben. With some challenges ahead both had difficulties in managing their time together and KRUSH decided to take Karmatic Ryderz along with him, where he was then known as KRUSH KRZ. While he was working on his 1st single, ATTAM PODA VAA he was called by DIWAN to feat in their album “DIWAN, PAARTHU” song titled Nanbeney http://soundcloud.com/krz-2/16-nanbeneh-f-a-k-e-feat .
In January, 2010 KRUSH KRZ’s 1st Tamil Reggae ton single ATTAM PODAVAA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5G1EGdm_Go was released and this song was heavily rotated on air by THR RAAGA. Many were impressed with his single and were called to perform for stage shows. It was an entirely awesome kick out as some traditional instrumentals were mixed to make it sound more fusion. ATTAM PODAVA was composed by SHANE EXTREME & KRUSH KRZ himself.
Due to business commitment KRUSH had to give a break to music and soon was approached by PYSCHOMANTRA to feat in his album titled “PUNITHAMANA THULASI”, their hard work became a Great Success through his song title “RAILEY RAILEY” http://soundcloud.com/dasshan/www-tamila-org-railey-railey and was heavily rotated on air by THR RAAGA. The song became a HIT and reached no 1 in the Malaysian Top 10. And without realizing, fame was after him too, he was called to perform in many stage shows and to appear as guest artist.
Coming up soon would be KRUSH KRZs Album release 2012. Catch up soon!
