Malaysia : Sheezay / Shevan Raj

Since the turn of the century, every local artist seem to have produced hip hop sensations, Shevan was trying to find his place. Hence Shevan Raj Yogaraja on December 28th in a small town at Rahang, Seremban. As a sheltered mother’s son, Shevan always exhibited a special quality for music, performing at every family functions, school and stage shows at the tender age of 8, with no prior music background.

He never foresaw the sort of opportunity that would later befall him. He was introduced to rap music in 2006 by afriend, and henceforth Shevan started pursuing his interest aggressively by delving into hip hop the following year. He took special interest and care in writing his own lyrics, penning it down creatively.Lady Luck flowed in, through courtesy of a fateful meeting
with Dr.Burn who immediately recognized his talent and potential, Dr.Burn offered him the opportunity to record his first single titled “Vaigasi Maasam” with fellow aspiring star, Stylomannavan in Dr.Burn’s compilation album (Zurazamhaaram) which led to the recording of another track titled “Ennoda Vaadi” ,in the same album. The vast experience of working with an artist like Dr.Burn spurred the spirits of Shevan to take the next huge step of forming a group aptly called DIWAN with his partner in crime Yuhan A.K.A Stylomannavan and in sync with the introduction to Kartelhitmen records through MC Switch.

Sheezay is currently set to release his second single from the debut album titled “State 9 : Kambathu Rapper” Thaipusam 2012.

Malaysia : Rabbit Mac

EARLY DAYS

RABBIT mac, an upcoming artist from Penang has made a name for himself in the underground scene and has break into mainstream. Being featured in many prominent albums with well known local and international artist, he has created an immense reputation for himself. A hefty fan-base and substantial support promises great prospects for this upcoming star. Rabbit Mac embraced his musical journey at the age of 13 in 1996. His main inspiration came about from his dad’s passion for music.
Since RABBIT was a small boy, his dad used to play various music’s and that has make RABBIT to love music and also the choir classes he lovingly participated as a boy. This is where he begins his career as a musician especially into hip hop and rap music. His favourite 1st tamil RAP was by A.R.Rahman’s Khathal Dhesam ‘Hello Doctor’ and Samba Samba by Noel James. On the English front it was Vannila Ice and of course Pac’s.

PSYCHO.unit & GRAVEYARD.inc

Rabbit Mac first started his professional music career by making remixes of both English and Tamil songs with the North Side’s underground labels, Graveyard Inc and PSYCHO.unit. Besides that, his curiosity to explore further on music researches made him hired by some of the leading pubs and bistros as an Emcee and Dee Jay for special functions, Hip Hop Shows n Gigs in Penang, Malaysia. The first studio album with extreme hard work and perseverance was produced in the year 2005. This album, 541 SIMPLY NUMBERZ, together with Mista West and D.J.Bluezi, embarked their maiden journey into the commercial world of music. The concept of 541 is totally different to what Rabbit Mac is promoting now. 541 concentrated more on Pop/Hip-Hop kind of genre whilst the group’s main stream focus now is more towards Rap and Hip-Hop.
With the success of 541 in hand, Rabbit Mac and PSYCHO.unit decided to release their brand new album called “Ma Carrotz” based on the Rap/Hip-Hop culture. However, due to the success of certain other local Malaysian artists, PSYCHO.unit decided to come up with an excellent marketing strategy to emulate the success of rival artists. The strategy is to come up the first Hip-Hop NMalaysian Tamil Underground Album. It also can be said a risk they took to enter the underground scene with an Underground Album in Malaysia. Many have released single tracks before but none have come up with a controversial underground album. Blog’s and websites also said that they were the first artist in Malaysia to come up with an Underground album.

RABBIT’s ‘PROVOKED’

This brought about the birth of “Rabbit’s Provoked”. The main concept behind the album was to educate Malaysian Indians about the spreading social plight nowadays. However this was done in no delicate manner. The extreme nature of this album is to excite or shock everyone so much so that everyone should talk about the album, the artist and the controversial message conveyed. This was to introduce RABBIT.mac in a way that other artists have done before. This proved to peak up to a height where 15 000 CD’s were sold in Malaysia in the years 2007 and 2008. It also helped to promote Rabbit Mac all over the globe. Strong fan bases started in Malaysia, India, Singapore, Canada and Sri Lanka through fan’s created website www.psychounit.tk and networking sites like Friendster, Myspace, and Facebook. The huge success of this album made Rabbit Mac and Psycho Unit to be known by many quarters as the concept of Provoked was so different than any other Indian Product that were ever launched. Sales of Psycho Unit’s merchandise increased tremendously. Moreover, fans and professional counterparts alike encouraged Rabbit Mac to come up with yet another masterpiece. In the grand scheme of things, Psycho Unit’s marketing strategy brought about the incarnation of “Ma Carrotz” which was long awaited and crazed for.

RABBIT MAC’s MA CARROTZ

Apart from that, Rabbit Mac has also featured and worked alongside artists like Bionic Asura, Dhilip Varman, Mista Gee, Mc Phoenix, Haze Freaky G, Saran Z, Sugu Amigoz, Mc.Syze, Lock Up, Vassan, Sasi the Don, Nakeeran from Malaysia, Shabir from Singapore, Dinesh Kanagarathnam from Sri Lanka, DJ.Sathya, Christopher Columbus from Singapore, Srik from India, Charles Bosco from United Kingdoms. Featured and composed a Sound Track for India’s Jaya TV’s “Thuppariyum Pulli”. PSYCHO.unit and Rabbit Mac has also worked with a big time movie making company known as MIG Metrowealth by doing Sound Tracks for most anticipated local movies “Senario” and “Ngangkong” which was released end of the year 2009. PSYCHO.unit has also came up with their own clothing apparels called “PSYCHOLOGICAL” Apparels. They sold more than 900 shirts in Malaysia alone. They are coming up with Caps, Bandanas, Wrist Bands and few Designed Shirts of their very own Tamil Local Artists and Groups in Malaysia very soon before end of the year. India : Blaaze

“ I grew up in Zambia, dad’s an architect, so we’d tour around the country with me doing break dance on these sets designed by dad! It was amazing”

Moving from break dance and inspired by the sounds that were doing the rounds in Zambia, BlaaZe picked up on rap, and found his calling, sitting and penning rhymes was a daily occurrence at home. Being lucky enough to perform for president Chiluba during the election campaign in ‘91, BlaaZe didn’t stop there, less than a year later he produced and performed on Zambia’s first ever music video “Advice 4 Livin’ with the Zambian national broadcasting corporation, this in his late teens.
Lots more happened since then, a couple of interviews with ZNBC – TV (Zambia), and Doordarshan TV – India (UK), a chart entry as a future hit prediction on Zimbabwe Radio, live performances for the Indian High Commissioner to Zambia on independence day in 1995.
Cut to a stint with then Radio Midday as a DJ on the ‘Mellow Hour’ and an exclusive New Year’s performance on Zee TV. He even presented a musical show for the promotion of Zambian music for ZNBC in 1995 as well as serving as an assistant producer of a current affairs program called ‘Focus”.
From then on doors opened, an opening act for Sasha, featuring on the soundtrack for the Femina Miss India ‘96 pageant. Being unaccredited as the rapper on “East or West, India is the best’ from the movie ‘Judwaa’, marking his entry into the big bad world of Bollywood. He then opened for acts like Shaggy and C&C Music Factory here in India, on the Rap video version of Ooh La La directed by Ken Ghosh and music by A.R. Rehman and also Dj’d on Radio Midday as a special feature presentation on the legacy of 2Pac.
“2Pac’s my guardian angel, I’m inspired by him, his work, the way he lived, everything’. Moving to California in January 1998 BlaaZe enrolled at Columbia College - Hollywood pursuing a BA Cinema degree and completed it successfully.

After coming back to India, he was snapped up by MTV, working there for over 2 years as a producer and director of various shows like “MTV Classics, World Chart Express, Megamix, Chillout, and MTV Select” also assisting director Aditya Bhattacharya on filming Lucky ALI ‘s ‘Kitni Haseen Zindagi’ in between and opening for the artist in Mumbai.
He then switched to presenting shows like ‘The Big Drive Home’ and ‘Rebel Yell’ on Radio City 91fm. He’s been documented by the BBC for the hip-hop show ‘Ghetto Fabulous’, performed a hip-hop version of ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’ for the Bob Dylan tribute arranged by jazz legend Louis Banks.

Then A.R Rahman happened.  Worked on several film songs with A R Rahman, including, Baba, Boys, New, Saathiya, Yuva and as a lyricist on Kisna and the Chinese Epic, Warriors Of Heaven and Earth. Currently working on the theme song for the United Nations Millenium Campaign as a Rapper and Lyricist on issues such as TB, Poverty and survival. “I write about my life... I write about India, Zambia and anything else that moves me so much that I need to pen a few words down.”

Singapore : Lady Kash and Krissy

The inescapable combination of Krissy’s spellbinding and alluring vocals tied together with Lady Kash’s unique flavored voice delivering head-spinning rap vocals, equates to these girls definitely being a force to reckon with and a heart-stealing combination!

In early 2008, Lady Kash commenced on a solo Music career in the Entertainment Industry. Later that ye
ar in September, Krissy - who also happens to be Kash’s closest Friend - joined forces with her and the Duo went on to establish themselves as Lady Kash and Krissy from then onwards. Hailing from sunny Singapore - an Urban Island City State located in South East Asia, these young lasses have their eyes set firmly on the prize and aspire to bring their Music across to a Global audience! Not intending to stop there, they also aim to break barriers and bring about many new breakthroughs!

In March 2009, the Girls chose to follow their Hearts and to make their Passion their Career. After gaining the approval and support of their Parents, Kash and Krissy left their then on-going Diploma Courses in Singapore and made a bold decision to move to India on their own to pursue their Dreams. This move had many people around them questioning their choice of choosing to go to India. To which, Kash and Krissy would respond by saying, “We believe that one can make it in the Industry from any part of World. There should be no boundaries and there are no boundaries and we’d like to prove that! It’s one Industry as we see it.”

During the 2 years they spent in India, the Duo worked on many projects and expanded their contacts in the Industry while carefully planning and crafting out their Debut Album and a Promotional Album. Being well aware that one should constantly strive to upgrade him or herself to be all-rounder’s in the ever-vibrant 21st Century Entertainment Field, they also underwent courses in Audio & Music and now hold a Diploma in Recording Arts.

In May 2010, now 21-year old Kash and 20-year old Krissy accomplished an honorable feat by being the youngest Vocalists to contribute to the Theme Song for the World Classical Tamil Conference scored by 2-time Oscar & Grammy Winning Composer A.R. Rahman and penned by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Over 60 renowned Singers from all over India had also contributed to the splendorous Anthem that encapsulates the richness of the Tamil Language, Culture and Literature down the ages.

“We are extremely thrilled and happy to be a part of this Anthem as Tamil is our Mother Tongue and India is after all, the Land of our Ancestral Roots. It was a humbling experience and an honor to work with so many great talents! We hope everyone enjoys the Anthem and feels the heart in it!” were the words of Kash and Krissy.

Later that year, the young Ladies further transcended all expectations and brought about a new breakthrough by becoming the first International Singer/Rapper Female Duo to contribute to Soundtracks in the Indian Cinema. In July 2010, they gave Indian Cinema and its massive Worldwide audience a fresh and innovative new sound when they combined vocals with 2-Time Oscar Award Winning Music Composer A.R. Rahman in the Soundtrack 'Irumbile Oru Irudhayam' (translates to: Heart of Steel) for Indian Cinema's costliest Movie ever made, "Endhiran - The Robot" which had been directed by renowned Filmmaker S. Shankar, and of course Musically directed by A.R.Rahman himself! The song rapidly became the People's Favorite and also went on to create a record by becoming the First Tamil Soundtrack Album to ever enter and top the International iTunes Chart - namely, the US, UK and AUS charts - that too, in just 4 days after the Movie's Audio was released! Listeners also coined the song the compliment of being the ‘First International Sounding Soundtrack for Indian Cinema’. To top it all off, the Movie starred the biggest names of the Industry; Superstar Rajinikanth and the Beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachan. It also went on to become a Milestone in the timeline of the World’s Movie Industry.

"This is our biggest achievement thus far and undoubtedly a dream come true for the both of us. Working on a massive and exciting project such as Endhiran with the most admired personalities in the Industry, at such an early stage of our career, is a truly humbling experience and will definitely remain as our earliest most memorable mark of our Journey even as we go forward to more experiences. Being on a soundtrack with Mr. A.R. Rahman is a joyful blessing and something we have always visualized eagerly. Dreams do come true." exclaimed Lady Kash and Krissy, whom have now worked on 3 projects with A.R. Rahman.

Bonded by the same Dreams and Visions and having been inspired by the Arts since a very young age, this tenacious duo have taken the bold step to turn their dreams into reality. Despite having almost no Musical background at the beginning, they possess an overabundance of Love and Passion for all things Arts! Be it Dance, Film, Theatre and of course, Music! Eager to acquire as much as possible and to learn as they go along their journey, Lady Kash and Krissy say they prefer to always look forward to what’s in store for them in the future, with no looking back. Believing firmly that if one truly wants to achieve their dreams, the Universe will indeed conspire to grant his/her wishes, the Duo have set out to achieve and reach great heights.

Preferring to write songs that are inspired by their thoughts, feelings and observations, they feel that life offers never-ending experiences to write and sing about. Thankful for the talents that they been blessed with, the Ladies feel that music is one Universal existence that has the Power to unite People all over the World and touch hearts. They wish that their music would not only serve the purpose of entertainment, but also bring joy to listeners and allow them to connect with their songs and even find comfort in. Moreover, they also aspire to make music that’s positive and thought provoking. Leaving people with something to ponder over. Keeping in mind Worldly issues that we are confronted with daily in this fast-paced, modern World, they strongly belief that Music can help make our World a better place.

Currently, Lady Kash and Krissy are busy crafting out their yet to be titled Debut Album and a soon to be released Promotional Album which will feature a variety of original songs of different styles. Both projects are said to be completed and released by the mid of 2011 with the Promotional Album being released as a free download prior to the Official Debut Album!

With a quickly growing Global Fan-base, they are steadily on their way to becoming a World Wide sensation and a Dual-Feminine Force the Entertainment Industry and World has never felt before!

Back home in Singapore now, the Ladies are continuing on the pursuit of their big dreams and seem to have their eyes on the United States of America. Stay tuned!
